Especially by protecting the content - which commonly shows a higher environmental impact than the light weighting flexible packaging - the packaging fulfils an important function to reduce the overall environmental footprint. The overall footprint would be raised tremendously by insufficient or inadequate packaging. Packaging saves more resources than it consumes by protecting the content and avoiding waste through appropriate portioning and clear labelling.
Nevertheless, Constantia Flexibles is well aware of its role and responsibility in the supply chain and we strive for continuously improving the performance of our processes and products relating to sustainable issues. In order to determine the environmental impact of flexible packaging in the total supply chain and to work out potentials for optimization we conduct life cycle assessments (LCAs) by our own and actively participate in the performance of LCAs extensive coordinated by the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) and Flexible Packaging Europe (FPE).
