Constantia Flexibles’ mission is to constantly rethink packaging to make a meaningful contribution to our customers and the environment. We are very conscious of our economic, social and environmental responsibility. Sustainability plays a decisive role in all our business activities and, therefore, we created a more sustainable and at the same time high-barrier solution for pharmaceuticals. For most pharmaceutical products, high barrier protection against moisture, oxygen and heat is important for protecting the APIs, in order to provide the patients with an effective medication. Our goal was to create a more sustainable solution with a high-barrier for pharmaceuticals. The result is PERPETUA, a recyclable product family member, based on PP mono materials. The PERPETUA product family offers an entire world of tailor-made choices enabling us to deliver the same performance provided by non-recyclable film.
Recyclable mono-material solution with high-chemical resistance
PERPETUA is a unique line of full PP high barrier laminates for flexible packaging. PERPETUA is available in a HCR (High Chemical Resistant) version. This is our first recyclable mono-material solution displaying high chemical resistance towards aggressive filling goods. It offers excellent product protection from oxygen, water vapor and light. Life Cycle Assessment results indicate a reduction of environmental footprint compared to standard multi material solutions. Being HTP-Cyclos certified, its recyclability ranges from 90% to 96%, depending on the individual material specification. With no detrimental aesthetic effects, PERPETUA allows to create an attractive design.
The Institute cyclos-HTP is a German institute which has designed a catalogue for requirements and for assessing and certifying the recyclability of packaging and goods. HTP Cyclos Institute certifies the recyclability for Perpertua family products. An overall conformity is given with the following standards:
- Requirements and assessment catalogue of the institute cyclos-HTP for EU-wide certification
- Minimum standard for measuring the recycling capacity of the CAPG
- DIN EN 13430 with regard to material recyclability in the post-use phase

In addition, it is a more sustainable material that is recyclable. Also, the customized barrier for product safety and long shelf life is a unique selling point. PERPETUA is a drop-in solution for existing packaging formats based on laminates such as stick packs, strip packs, sachets and compliant with food and pharma regulatory requirements.
